Howdy Cowboy | Springtown, Texas | 12’x48’
The Springtown mural is a celebration of the community, its history, and the people who make it special. To help bring the design to life, citizens of Springtown were invited to share their input through a questionnaire highlighting the places, traditions, and cultural elements that best represent their town. Their responses helped shape a design that reflects Springtown’s unique identity and the pride its residents have in calling it home.
The final design takes the form of a vintage-inspired postcard, welcoming visitors with a big “Howdy from Springtown!” At the center of the composition, a cowboy rides in to rope a cow, paying tribute to the area’s longstanding cattle culture and Western roots. Rows of cotton are incorporated into the design as a nod to the cotton industry and its role in the town’s history. The mural also features the infamous row of downtown buildings, recognizing the historic structures that have become a familiar and recognizable part of Springtown.
Beyond its agricultural roots and historic downtown, the mural celebrates the traditions and community connections that continue to shape Springtown today. Subtle nods to the Porcupine school mascot recognize local school pride, while references to Wild West Fest and Old Fashioned Christmas highlight two beloved community events that bring residents together year after year. The year 1859 is also included to commemorate the town’s establishment and honor the generations who have helped shape its story.
By gathering input directly from the people who know Springtown best, the mural becomes more than a collection of local symbols. Each element represents a piece of the community’s shared history, personality, and traditions. Designed as a postcard from Springtown, the artwork serves as both a tribute to the town’s past and a celebration of the people and experiences that continue to define it. It offers residents a chance to see their community reflected in a single design while welcoming visitors to discover what makes Springtown special.
